Credit cards and tap-to-pay are widely accepted in hotels, larger restaurants, and tour companies in tourist areas. However, for smaller local restaurants (called 'sodas'), local markets, and transportation in rural areas, it is highly recommended to carry Costa Rican Colones (CRC) in cash.
